Women in Law (WIL), established in early 2020, was created to provide alumnae, students, and faculty with networking opportunities while supporting transformational experiences for Cincinnati Law students that may be unattainable because of finances.
Voting members make an annual contribution of $1,000 and vote to award grants to student and faculty projects. Gifts of any size will help UC Law to make a positive impact on our community.
All grant applications that are funded by Women in Law propose a program or project that will make a difference in the community or be a transformative learning experience for students. During its inaugural year, eight grants were awarded, totaling almost $50,000. These grants ranged from providing summer work positions to current law students in the public interest sector to outreach programs benefiting the Latinx community.
During the inaugural year, one project focused on providing minority mentorship relationships between law students and students at Hughes High School to inform how we all can impact our society through activities and discussions. Another project was to build a stronger Latinx community by empowering both students and non-student community members through mentorship and access to free legal resources.
