The mission of the Legal Access Clinic is to decrease inequities in our justice system by providing affordable, high quality legal representation to people in the greater Cincinnati area and to train the next generation of public interest attorneys to become compassionate, informed advocates.
The Legal Access Clinic (LAC) provides real-life client experiences for upper-level Juris Doctor (JD) and Masters of Law (LLM) students at the UC College of Law. These students counsel clients from beginning to end and appear in court beside clients. Students will draft court documents, decide case strategy, learn the ins and outs of running a law firm by answering phones, managing client files, deciding fees, and ensuring compliance while under the supervision of the clinic Director.
There are five practice areas the clinic will focus on which are currently impacting our greater Cincinnati community: Wills and Estates; Divorce and Dissolution; Immigration; LGBTQIA+ name and gender marker changes; Housing – habitability and evictions.
Clients will pay substantially discounted fees for services provided, with services offered on a flat fee basis. In certain situations, LAC may deviate from its eligibility guidelines, scope of services, and fee structure to serve people who cannot afford legal representation and have been unable to obtain pro bono representation from Legal Aid or other organizations.
UC and UC Health employees can give via payroll deduction today!
