Thank you to Mr. Lyle E. Shaw ’67, ’68 and Mrs. Gretchen S. Shaw for their generous gift of $320,000 to the University of Cincinnati. As committed members of the UC community, Mr. and Mrs. Shaw’s gifts will make an immediate impact in several critical areas of UC’s campus.
With the establishment of the Lyle and Gretchen Shaw Cancer Research Fund at the UC Cancer Center, the Shaws are enabling the advancement of cancer research leading to novel approaches in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of cancer. Additionally, their gift contributes to Pilot Programs which are furthering the collaboration of different disciplines to question, solve and improve cancer outcomes. “Part of our objective for this gift is to contribute to cancer research promoting UC and its stature with achieving NCI-Designation,” shares Lyle Shaw.
Their enthusiasm for UC Athletics leads Mr. and Mrs. Shaw to fund four critical areas which provide a wide range of opportunities. With gifts to the following funds, Mr. and Mrs. Shaw help launch UC Athletics into the Big 12 on July 1, Indoor Practice Performance Facility Fund, Athletics Mental Health & Wellness Fund, Director of Athletics Next Level Fund, and Men's Basketball Development Fund and Women's Basketball Development Fund.
Mr. and Mrs. Shaw are committed to the success of UC students. As a Linder College of Business graduate, Mr. Shaw is passionate about advancing the Lindner College of Business Dean's Discretionary Fund which supports Dean Marianne Lewis as she empowers business problem solvers to tackle the world’s challenges. With their gift to the Gen-1 Theme House Fund, Mr. and Mrs. Shaw are supporting the living-learning community center built on the success of ten years of UC’s Gen-1 Program. Living at the Gen-1 Theme House supports students in their transition to college by introducing them to programs and resources that enhance success.
“Overall, the objective of our gifts to UC Athletics and scholarships is to contribute to programs affecting highly educated and motivated students and improving outcomes for students as they work to achieve their goal of a degree from UC.” - Lyle and Gretchen Shaw.
