UC Adaptive Athletics

The University of Cincinnati Adaptive Athletics Program is dedicated to fostering a competitive athletic environment for students with physical disabilities, empowering them through sports that build person growth, community and excellence. The program is open to all UC students (undergraduate or graduate/professional, all campuses) with lower-limb disabilities, whether you use a wheelchair daily or just for sports, at any skill level.

UC Adaptive Athletics currently offers:

  • Wheelchair Tennis: participants use specially designed sports wheelchairs, following traditional tennis rules with an allowance for two bounces, making the game accessible yet challenging
  • Adaptive Track and Field: participants can compete in sprints, long-distance races, and field events, including shot put, with the support of racing wheelchairs and custom throwing frames.

UC adaptive Athletics has transformed the college experience for students like Seth Miller, a former hockey player who now competes in adaptive track after a spinal cord injury; Logan Cover, a Cincinnati Dragon wheelchair basketball alumnus who joined UC's adaptive sports team to be closer to home; and Jaime Mazzi, a Paralympian who now mentors younger athletes in UC's tennis program. These athletes find a sense of belonging, joy, and achievement through adaptive sports at UC.

As UC Adaptive Athletics grows, the program will continue to collaborate with local organizations like The Bridge Adaptive Sports and Recreation, the Cincinnati Dragons and the Cincinnati Tennis Foundation, with the goal of establishing UC as a national collegiate hub for adaptive sportsThrough partnerships, UC Adaptive Athletics aims to create a pathway where students with disabilities can achieve their fullest potential in competitive sports while representing their Bearcat Pride.

By supporting UC Adaptive Athletics, you are investing in an accessible and empowering sports culture, where every student with a disability has the chance to compete, connect and excel.
