Black Men in Medicine is a newly developed mentoring organization dedicated to expanding the enrollment and retention of Black men in medical schools. Led by UC professor emeritus and pioneer Alvin Crawford, MD, the organization will provide direct mentoring, community engagement, and professional development training to Black males interested in medicine. African American male medical students and residents are paired with community and academic physicians that are serving as mentors. The long-term vision is to expand mentoring to African American males and/or diverse students in middle and high school that may have interest in exploring medicine.
