Now more than ever, our world faces critical challenges to overall wellbeing that are magnified by issues of aging, diseases, environmental quality, access, and equality. The Center for DAAP Research and Innovation (CDRI) on Health and Wellbeing has been created to leverage the creative disciplines, Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP), in connection with other colleges on campus as well as community partners to address and impact the quality of life of populations. Through our work, we have been advancing technologies to improve health and wellbeing in a spectrum of critical issues such as:

Aging – What are the next generation of affordable robotics that provide psycho-social support for older adults to address issues of isolation and connected care?

Caregiving – How can we develop and deploy Virtual Reality technologies to help train family, friends, and others who are in caregiving roles to address issues of better-quality care models?

Cancer – How can we design and deploy new therapy tools for cancer treatment and brain-related diseases to address issues of “chemo brain” and improve quality of life?

Health Equity  – How can we design more equitable future digital technologies to address issues of access to health and care?

Public Health – What are the technologies we can implement in communities to address issues of overdoses and the opioid crisis?

Public Space - How can we address the pressing need for children to access safe, natural play spaces in neighborhoods as sustainable community coalitions?

Work - How do office environments in contemporary buildings, optimized to maximize building performance, affect the wellbeing of the individuals who work in them?

The CDRI on Health and Wellbeing is on the forefront of designing the next generation of technologies that directly impact health and wellbeing to positively impact quality of life.
