Pride at Lindner (PaL) is the driving force behind an inclusive and empowering environment for LGBTQ+ students, faculty, staff, and community allies at the Lindner College of Business and across UC. PaL has been the only student-led LGBTQ+ resource for students within the Lindner College of Business for 4 years. With your support and donations, you will help PaL continue to be a safe space for students by 1) Contributing to funds that allow excellent programming and experiences 2) Adding more money to a scholarship fund to help LGBTQ+ students within the college. Pal's goal for the next year is to be able to do more across campus by collaborating with organizations outside of campus and moving into Cincinnati as a whole.
In addition to community-building events, the PaL student team has planned a full year of programming, including LGBTQ panels and speakers, professional and career development opportunities, and the yearly Loud and Proud events held during Coming Out Week. To execute all of these programs, PaL needs additional funding for programming.
According to a 2019 survey from Student Loan Hero, 60% of LGBTQ individuals reported a lack of family support. In addition to not feeling accepted, 28% of respondents have been forced to leave their homes because of their sexuality. This financial chokehold is particularly devastating to LGBTQ college students, who can find themselves cut off both emotionally and financially. Per Student Loan Hero, on average, LGBTQ borrowers graduate with $16,000 more than their cis/het peers. Studies also show that LGBTQ students face additional obstacles in getting loans during their studies on campus and entering the job market after graduation. The PaL Scholarship Fund seeks to aid these vulnerable students in need.
