The Arlitt PlayScape, located outside French Hall, is a dynamic, vegetation-rich play environment intentionally designed to promote hands-on exploration and nurture young children’s affinity for nature. Since opening in 2012, the playscape has served children at the Arlitt Child Development Center and the general public. Research has documented the developmental benefits that occur through children’s engagement in this environment. Support is needed to maintain the beauty and benefits of this unique and innovative space.
The Arlitt Child Development Center at the University of Cincinnati serves children from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds and acts as a practicum site for university students. Arlitt offers children an enriching early learning experience while contributing to cutting-edge research and designing formal and informal learning environments. Arlitt aims to innovate and advocate for high-quality learning environments for all young children, beginning with beautiful spaces for our youngest bearcats to thrive.
The Arlitt Center serves our entire bearcat community- from young children to students to faculty and staff. Arlitt views children as active agents in their learning, and supporting these capacities from early childhood is critical to a more sustainable and equitable world. The center is actively committed to meeting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. As a laboratory preschool, Arlitt is dedicated to research, service, and professional development, promoting innovative approaches to early learning within our community and the broader field.
